Virginia Indian Tribes' Visit to England July 13 - 20, 2006.
Jamestown 2007 Commemoration.

Virginia Indian Tribes will be hosted by the United Kingdom, July 13 through July 20, 2006, to commemorate Jamestown 2007, the 400th Anniversary of the first permanent English settlement at Jamestown, Virginia. This blog site will report on the activities of the Tribes on their visit to England.

The Tribes' visit to England this summer is historically significant. The festivities will take place in Gravesend, UK where in 1617 Pocahontas, the daughter of paramount Chieftan, Powhatan, died and was buried while visiting England with her husband John Rolfe. This occasion is the first visit by the Tribes as a community to Pocahontas' grave site since her death. The trip comes at a time when the Tribes are seeking recognition by the US government of the Treaties the Tribes made with England in the early 1600's.

We anticipate there will be many significant events to report during the week of their visit to Gravesend. The truth of the Tribes' first contact experiences, and their plight as first peoples, will be revisited in this historic journey to the United Kingdom. This blog is intended to allow many others to be with them hour by hour as they make this historic journey. Please offer your comments and visit the related links.
